MDF Administrator and Atwima Nwabiagya South MCE Unite to Combat Illegal Mining

Dr. Hanna Louisa Bissiw-Kotei, Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund (MDF), has paid a working visit to Atwima Nwabiagya South in the Ashanti Region to address the escalating issue of illegal mining.

During her visit, she engaged with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Wisdom Osei Boamah, to strategize on effective measures to combat this menace.

Dr. Bissiw-Kotei expressed the government’s commitment, under President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership, to eradicating illegal mining activities.

She highlighted a concerning trend where many arrested individuals are unemployed youth, exploited by affluent illegal mining operators who remain behind the scenes.

To tackle this, she announced plans to implement advanced monitoring technologies, including software applications, to detect and track unauthorized mining activities in real-time.

In response, Hon. Boamah expressed his dedication to the cause by revealing the formation of a specialized task force aimed at identifying and shutting down illegal mining operations within the municipality.

He underscored the importance of community involvement and collaborative efforts to ensure the success of these initiatives.

This joint effort signifies a proactive approach by both the MDF and local authorities to safeguard the environment and promote sustainable development in mining communities.
