Marcus Rashford Set for Barcelona Loan After Completing Medical

Marcus Rashford has completed a medical at Barcelona ahead of a season-long loan move from Manchester United.

The 27-year-old England international arrived in Catalonia on Sunday to finalize the transfer with club approval. On Monday, Rashford met Barcelona manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco at the club’s training ground.

Talks between Barcelona and Manchester United progressed quickly last week, leading to an agreement over the weekend. As part of the loan arrangement, Barcelona will cover Rashford’s wages for the entire 12-month period.

Rashford reportedly agreed to a 25% pay cut to facilitate the move, saving United approximately £14 million. The agreement includes an option for Barcelona to make the move permanent for £30.3 million at the end of the loan.

He will be officially presented to the media on Wednesday, marking the start of his stint in La Liga. Rashford’s decision to seek a loan followed a drop in playing time under United head coach Ruben Amorim.

Rashford’s Second Consecutive Loan as He Eyes a Fresh Start

This move is Rashford’s second consecutive loan, following a six-month spell at Aston Villa last season. Barcelona aims to register him in time for their pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea, which begins Thursday.

While La Liga registration is still being processed, Rashford is allowed to train and play in friendlies. The pre-season schedule includes a match against FC Seoul on July 31, where Rashford could face Jesse Lingard.

Lingard, also a former Manchester United player, is currently in his second season with the K League side.

Rashford’s decision to leave was influenced by his desire for a new challenge and more playing time. The loan gives him a chance to rejuvenate his career at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Former Teammates React to Rashford’s Loan Departure

Former Manchester United star Paul Pogba shared his support for Rashford’s loan to Barcelona. “I’m happy for him because they [United] took his number,” Pogba said. “Manchester United are losing a great player.”

He praised Barcelona’s gain and acknowledged Rashford’s quality and experience. Pogba also commented on Amorim’s approach, saying the coach may have prioritized immediate results.

“It’s not really his [Amorim’s] fault. He needs to win,” Pogba added. “If he doesn’t win, they’re going to sack him.”

The loan move offers Rashford the opportunity to reset and potentially secure a permanent place at Barcelona. As he begins this new chapter, all eyes will be on how he performs in Spain.
