KMA Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi has issued a strict warning against rebuilding at the Adum Blue Light Market.

The Mayor declared that any new structures will be demolished, citing a report recommending complete demolition of the building.

The fire, which struck on March 21, 2025, destroyed shops and left thousands of traders counting huge financial losses.

Goods worth millions of cedis were lost in the blaze, devastating the Kumasi market community.

Since the incident, political figures and well-wishers have visited the site to console victims and offer donations.

Despite support efforts, KMA Mayor Boadi criticized ongoing reconstruction attempts, labeling them defiant and against city authority.

He emphasized that the burnt structure is dangerously weak and remains the property of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

The KMA is scheduled to meet Thursday to finalize actions based on the fire investigation report.

Boadi disapproved of donations like cement from NPP members, saying rebuilding is premature and inappropriate.

“I will demolish everything they have done so far,” he warned. “They shouldn’t continue wasting their time and money.”

He added that the official report has been submitted to relevant authorities for final approval before any next steps.
