The Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has issued a critical warning to consumers, urging them to exercise caution when purchasing palm oil due to ongoing concerns over product adulteration.
Roderick Daddey-Adjei, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the FDA, highlighted that despite rigorous enforcement, some unscrupulous traders continue to use the banned Sudan Four dye to taint palm oil sold on the market. This harmful practice poses significant health risks to consumers, raising serious public safety concerns.
Daddey-Adjei acknowledged that progress has been made in curbing the issue, but even a small percentage of contaminated products remains unacceptable. “We are not satisfied with that small percentage still out there, which indicates that perpetrators are still lurking,” he emphasized. He also issued a stern warning to those involved in the illegal practice, noting that recent arrests have already been made, and those who continue to violate the law will be caught. “Their days are numbered,” he added.
This warning is part of the FDA’s ongoing efforts to eliminate dangerous substances like Sudan Four dye from the market, safeguarding the health of consumers across the country.
