The Kumasi city has seen persistent power cuts over the past few weeks across all towns in the city of Kumasi, affecting business and domestic activities.
Residents faced the most frustrating power cut this weekend, especially on Sunday, 16th March, 2025
Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene revealed his office has received calls from some Kumasi residents, urging him to intervene, to fasttrack the restoration of stable electricity in the city. That, he says has put him under intense pressure.
The Energy Minister, Hon. Abu Jinapor visited the region to access the situation and engage key stakeholders in the energy sector to restore stable power. He is also expected to inspect all ongoing power infrastructure projects in the Ashanti Region.

Hon. Jinapor mentioned that the frequent power cuts in the region is as a result of the weak energy sector inherited from the previous government. However, he listed some measures put in place to resolve the situation.
“Ashanti region peculiarly has a major problem with power supply, it’s not just the supply of the power into the grid, but also evacuating the power and distributing it. GRIDCo is injecting some major transformers to stabilise the power supply.
He also attributed the situation to the ongoing maintenance works by the the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited.
