An individual has been arrested by the police for allegedly attempting to disrupt the established procedures during the Council of State election at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi.

The election, originally scheduled for February 11, was postponed to February 17 after previous disruptions caused by some thugs at the Regional Coordinating Council.

Currently, 86 delegates are participating in the voting process to select one candidate from a pool of 12 in the Ashanti Region.

The arrested individual reportedly tried to bypass a police checkpoint, leading to his apprehension.

Hundreds of police officers have been deployed to man the election venue along with crowd control equipment.

Several police barricades have been mounted to prevent illegal entry to the voting ground.
