Former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, has been declared winner in the highly contested Council of State election held in Kumasi.

The election, which featured 12 candidates, saw Obimpeh securing a substantial number of votes, cementing his win.

The results were announced by the Electoral Commission on Monday, February 17, 2025, where Obimpeh polled 49 votes.

His closest competitor, Nkansah Boadu Nana Ayeboafo, garnered 35 votes, while Daniel Anarfi Yamoah received just 1 vote.

The remaining candidates did not receive any votes.

Out of the 86 votes expected, a total of 85 valid votes were cast, with no ballots rejected.

The council of state election was initially scheduled for February 11. But it was postponed to February 17 due to disruptions caused by some thugs at the Regional Coordinating Council.
