COP Tetteh Yohunu sworn into office as IGP by Prez. Mahama

H.E John Dramani Mahama has today, March 14, 2025 sworn in COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has Inspector General of Police(IGP) in a ceremony at the Jubilee House.

His appointment was announced in a communique from the Office of the President signed by Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu after the removal of IGP George Dampare from the office. “COP Yohunu brings forty years of experience to the position of IGP and is expected to oversee the modernization and transformation of the Ghana Police Service“, the statement read.

Though the reason for Dampare’s removal is unknown, sources suggest that the appointment of COP Yohunu is part of broader efforts to reshape the leadership and operational direction of the law enforcement agency.

PROFILE OF COP TETTEH YOHUNU.

COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno is a distinguished expert in security and law enforcement, with a career spanning over four decades in both national and international policing. His tenure has been marked by outstanding leadership, strategic insight, and an unwavering commitment to service.

Throughout his extensive career, he has provided impactful solutions to contemporary crime issues, earning recognition and respect both within Ghana and globally.

Promoted to Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIGP) in July 2024, Christian has played a key role in shaping the operational strategies of the Ghana Police Service. In his current role, he has strengthened collaboration between police leadership and operational units across the country, ensuring efficient communication, strategic execution, and improved public safety.

COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has held various significant leadership roles in Ghana’s police force, including Regional and Deputy Regional Commander for Greater Accra, where he oversaw operations in a highly dynamic region. His financial and operational expertise was also evident as Regional Finance Officer and Divisional Commander. Beginning his career in 1985, he rose through the ranks quickly. His international experience includes serving in UN peacekeeping missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and East Timor. As Director-General of Operations, he played a key role in security for major events like the 2016 General Elections.

In addition to his professional success, Christian is a dedicated family man, happily married with children. Outside of his busy career, he finds balance and inspiration in his hobbies, which include reading, athletics, football, and music.
