The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has stated that shutting down Teacher Trainee Colleges is not on the table following CETAG’s strike.
The strike, which commenced on June 14, is a result of the government’s failure to implement arbitral awards and fulfill other conditions of service for CETAG members.
This has led to a standstill in academic activities, with campuses mostly deserted by students.
Professor Francis K. E. Nunoo, Deputy Director General of GTEC, highlighted the financial implications of closing schools and expressed optimism in resolving the issues soon.
“We have made significant progress in addressing most of their demands. We are hopeful that in the coming days, a resolution will be reached, allowing students to return to school. In the meantime, students are engaged in practical work which requires supervision,” Professor Nunoo stated.
