ASANTEHENE- OTUMFUO OSEI TUTU II

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed concerns regarding the challenges facing Ghana’s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

He stated that there’s a need for a review if the critical issues remain unresolved.

During a courtesy visit by the Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu to the Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II pointed out challenges such as food shortages, inadequate accommodation, and irregular academic calendars as worrying.

He questioned the effectiveness of the policy in its current form and stressed the importance of addressing these challenges to ensure quality education for students.

Concerns are growing among parents, educators, and students regarding the sustainability of the Free SHS program, which has been a flagship initiative of the government.

Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu acknowledged these challenges and assured the Asantehene that the government is committed to addressing them.

He revealed that his ministry is working on interventions aimed at improving feeding, accommodation, and the overall management of the policy to enhance its effectiveness.
