The Interim Executives of the Blue Light Traders Association have issued an apology to Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak after some members rejected relief items intended to support them.
Following a devastating fire that affected parts of Adum last Friday, 1,500 bags of rice, 800 boxes of cooking oil, and soap were turned away by some traders impacted by the disaster.
The association condemned this action and noting that it does not reflect the views of all victims.
In an interview on Orange Sunrise with Alfa Ali, association member Maxwell Annor Yeboah pleaded with the Minister to accept their apology and return the items.
“What they did was very bad and it wasn’t sanctioned by us, the executives. We are on our knees begging him to accept our apology and return the items. We are ready to gladly accept them,” he stated.
Yeboah noted that while they have not yet officially communicated with the Minister, they hope he will see their statement on social media and respond positively.
He mentioned that approximately 1,000 traders were affected by the fire and are in urgent need of support to rebuild their livelihoods.
In response to the incident, the government raised about GHS 600,000 so far to assist the victims.
Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also contributed GHS 200,000 and 1,000 bags of cement to support the affected traders.
