Asante Kotoko has made a key signing, securing the services of 22-year-old Fernando Wisdom Bassey after the talented midfielder parted ways with Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) side Akwa United. Bassey joins the Porcupine Warriors on a free transfer, following a six-year stint at Akwa United, where he played a crucial role in their triumphant 2020/21 season, which saw the club crowned Nigerian champions.
In an official statement, the Ghanaian football giants expressed their excitement about the new addition. “Asante Kotoko is pleased to announce the signing of Fernando Wisdom Bassey on a free transfer. The 22-year-old versatile midfielder has committed to a three-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2027. Bassey will inherit the number seven shirt from the departing Bernard Somuah.”
