Alfred Thompson, a member of the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, has accused the government of hiding critical details about Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s health condition.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Monday, March 31, Alfred Thompson criticized the government for failing to provide sufficient information after the Vice President’s sudden medical evacuation.
“Ghanaians need to know what happened on Friday and why she was rushed to the hospital,” Alfred Thompson insisted.
He stressed that as a public figure, Opoku-Agyemang’s health concerns the entire nation, and the government should not withhold details about her condition.
“Once you run for political office, your life is no longer private. That is what we need to get straight,” he asserted.
Thompson also condemned the decision to seek medical treatment abroad, highlighting past criticisms from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when they were in opposition.
“The NDC opposed government officials seeking treatment abroad. Have they forgotten what Okudzeto Ablakwa and even former President Mahama said in 2017 when Dr. Bawumia sought treatment abroad?” he questioned.
On Sunday, March 30, the Presidency confirmed that Vice President Opoku-Agyemang received medical treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) after experiencing a sudden illness on Friday, March 28, 2025.
The statement revealed that she visited UGMC on Saturday for medical care following the unexpected incident.
Government Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that medical experts recommended further treatment abroad to ensure her complete recovery.
