According to the Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Peter Tetteh, the fire service team were prompt to responding to the fire outbreak at Adum-Kumasi in the early hours of Friday, March 21, 2025. However, they did not get direct access to the exact area the fire was ravaging goods because of the congestion of the marketplace.
He said this while addressing the media at the scene. “Our team arrived early, but the lack of available space caused delays, hindering our ability to control the fire. The market’s crowded layout, with shops tightly packed, created significant accessibility issues for our personnel”, he stated.
Peter Tetteh also described the fire as highly complex and difficult to contain as shops contain different items. While the fire at the front building have been handled by the fire service, the fire service team still battles some flames in the back buildings and still, accessibility is the problem.
