A/R: Two people apprehended for Unlawful Possession of Firearms

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the unlawful possession of firearms, following a targeted intelligence-led operation conducted in parts of the Atwima Districts.

https://police.gov.gh/en/According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters, the operation was carried out by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit during the early hours of Tuesday, July 9, 2025.

The suspects, identified as Acheampong Kwadwo, 21, and James Antwi Adjei, 24, were nabbed at known criminal hideouts in Nweneso, Trabuom, and Nkwawie, all within the jurisdiction of the Greater Kumasi area.

During the operation, police recovered two pump-action shotguns, one of which lacked a serial number while the other bore the serial number ASAO 2164 2021.

Firearms Recovered in Early Morning Operation Targeting Suspected Hideouts

Authorities suspect the weapons may have been stolen and potentially intended for use in armed robbery activities in the region.

“The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations,” said DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in Ashanti.

The recovered firearms have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations, and police have assured the public of further updates as more information becomes available.

The Ashanti Regional Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling violent crime and has urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement efforts to keep communities safe.
