A/R: Police launch investigation into killing of Kusasi chief at Asawase

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the murder of Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Chief of the Kadi Divisional Area in Binduri.

The deadly shooting incident which occurred on Tuesday evening, July 22, 2025, at Asawase F-Line, a suburb in the Ashanti Region has thrown the community into a state of shock and mourning.

He was reportedly shot and killed around 8:40 PM by two unidentified men, each riding a motorbike.

According to a police statement issued on Wednesday, preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers approached the victim and opened fire at close range before fleeing the scene.

The motive behind the attack is not yet known, and the suspects remain at large.

The victim was rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital for emergency treatment and was later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body has since been deposited at the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo for autopsy.

Police Launch Full-Scale Investigation, Recover Bullet Shells at Scene

In response to the incident, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, the Regional Crime Officer, ACP Ebenezer Boyor, and a team of officers visited the crime scene to begin investigations.

Two empty shells believed to have been fired from an AK-47 assault rifle were recovered at the scene.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command says it is making every effort to identify and arrest the suspects behind the killing.

Officers are reviewing evidence gathered at the scene and following leads to ensure justice is served.

Police are also calling on the public to assist with any information that could help the investigation.

“Individuals with relevant details are encouraged to report to the nearest police station or contact emergency lines 191, 18555, or 112. The police have urged residents to remain calm as they work to bring the perpetrators to book,” the statement said.
